Sukkari dates are famous for their sweetness — the name "sukkari" itself means sugary. At AlSultanFood we sell two kinds of Sukkari dates from Al-Qassim, Saudi Arabia: soft Sukkari Rotab and dry-skinned Sukkari Mufattal. Both come in 150g, 250g, 500g and 1kg. Every option and its current price is in the price table above.

Sukkari dates from Al-Qassim

Sukkari dates come from the Al-Qassim region of Saudi Arabia, an area known for its date farms. Sukkari is one of the best-loved dates in Saudi Arabia itself, and it is fast becoming a favourite in Malaysia thanks to its sweetness and easy-to-eat texture.

The fruit is golden yellow to light brown, quite unlike Ajwa dates, which are dark and almost black. The taste is sweet like honey or caramel, and the flesh is soft. Children usually love Sukkari because it is so sweet.

Sukkari Rotab vs Sukkari Mufattal: what is the difference?

This is the question we hear most. Both are the same Sukkari variety — the difference is how ripe they are and how they are processed, which gives them a different texture.

Sukkari Rotab (soft)

"Rotab" (or rutab) means a semi-ripe date that is still moist. Our Premium Soft Sukkari Rotab Dates are:

  • Very soft and slightly juicy, almost melting in the mouth.
  • Honey-sweet, with a fresh taste.
  • Thin-skinned and smooth, a little sticky.
  • Best eaten as they are, especially to break the fast.

Sukkari Mufattal (dry)

"Mufattal" describes a date that is drier on the outside. Our Premium Sukkari Mufattal Dates (Dry) are:

  • Dry outside, soft inside.
  • Not sticky — easy to hold and take anywhere.
  • Golden-skinned and lightly wrinkled.
  • Honey-sweet, with a firmer texture.

Which one should you choose?

  • Choose Sukkari Rotab if you love very soft, juicy dates.
  • Choose Sukkari Mufattal if you want dates that are not sticky, travel well and suit lunchboxes for school or the office.
  • Not sure? Buy a 150g pack of each and taste them side by side.

Sukkari sizes and prices

Both Sukkari Rotab and Sukkari Mufattal come in four weights: 150g, 250g, 500g and 1kg. See the price table above for current prices. A quick guide:

  • 150g — for trying, or to keep at the office.
  • 250g and 500g — for the family, enough for a week or two.
  • 1kg — the best value for a Ramadan stock-up or a big household.

How to store Sukkari dates

  • Sukkari Rotab is moister, so keep it in an airtight container in the fridge once opened, especially in hot weather. Take it out a few minutes before eating.
  • Sukkari Mufattal keeps more easily: a cool, dry place away from sunlight is enough. Close the pack tightly after opening.
  • Check the best-before date on the pack.

Ways to enjoy Sukkari dates

  • Eat them as they are to break your fast or at sahur.
  • Serve with Arabic coffee or tea when guests visit.
  • Pack Sukkari Mufattal for school, work or long journeys.
  • Blend Sukkari Rotab into a smoothie or date milk for natural sweetness.
  • Chop into oats, yogurt or cereal.
  • Serve alongside almonds or cashews — browse our nuts.

Like other dates, Sukkari is a source of fibre and natural energy, and a traditional choice for breaking the fast. Its sweetness also makes it a more natural alternative to sweets as a snack.

Sukkari dates for Ramadan and gatherings

Sukkari is a popular choice for iftar because it is sweet and soft, and suits every age — from children to grandparents. Many families buy a 1kg pack early, before Ramadan begins, so they have enough for the whole fasting month.

Sukkari also works well at kenduri, tahlil, aqiqah or Hari Raya open houses. Arrange golden Sukkari Mufattal on a platter next to dark Ajwa dates for a beautiful spread with a range of flavours. For a gift, pair a pack of Sukkari with nuts or dried fruit for a simple but thoughtful present.

Sukkari compared with other dates

If you love sweet dates, Sukkari is the one for you. For comparison:

  • Ajwa dates from Madinah are darker and gently sweet, known as the Sunnah date.
  • Medjool dates are bigger and chewier, and great for gifting.
  • Sukkari is golden, very sweet and lighter on the palate.
