Ajwa Dates from Madinah

Ajwa dates (kurma Ajwa) are among the most sought-after dates in Malaysia, especially in the weeks before Ramadan. At AlSultanFood we sell Ajwa dates from Madinah in several size grades, pack weights and gift boxes, so you can choose what fits your budget — for daily eating, a family stock-up or a gift. Every option and its current price is in the price table above.

Ajwa dates from Madinah: origin and what makes them special

Ajwa dates come from Madinah in Saudi Arabia. Many Malaysians call them the Prophet's dates (kurma nabi) or Sunnah dates, because Ajwa is mentioned in the hadith and holds a special place in Muslim tradition.

In a well-known hadith, it is narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) spoke of eating seven Ajwa dates in the morning (reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim). That is why many people keep a few Ajwa dates as part of their morning routine. We make no health promises — for us, Ajwa is simply a delicious, meaningful Sunnah food.

In taste, Ajwa is less sweet than dates such as Medjool or Sukkari. The flesh is soft and slightly chewy, with a gentle, mellow sweetness. That is why many people happily eat a few every day without it ever feeling too rich.

How to recognise genuine Ajwa dates

Ajwa is a premium date, so it helps to know what to look for. Typical Madinah Ajwa dates are:

• Dark — deep brown to almost black.
• Finely wrinkled — the skin is not completely smooth.
• Not glossy — the surface looks matte. Dates that are very shiny or sticky may have been coated in syrup.
• Soft — tender when pressed, but not wet.
• Round and modest in size — small to fairly large depending on the grade.
• Gently sweet — never sugary.

The simplest safeguard is to buy from an importer and supplier with a clear identity. AlSultanFood is a brand of Easy Global Ventures Sdn. Bhd. (1262161-H), an importer and supplier of dates, nuts, dried fruit and olive oil based in Seri Kembangan, Selangor.

Ajwa grades and sizes at AlSultanFood

We stock several kinds of Ajwa so there is something for everyone:

Premium Ajwa Dates from Madinah

Our Premium Ajwa Dates from Madinah come in four size grades — Small, Medium, Large and Jumbo — and four weights: 150g, 250g, 500g and 1kg.

• Small — the best-value choice for everyday eating.
• Medium — a balanced size and the family favourite.
• Large — bigger fruit with thicker flesh.
• Jumbo — the largest grade, ideal for guests and gifting.

The grade does not change the variety — they are all Madinah Ajwa. The difference is fruit size and appearance. A 150g pack is great for trying; 500g and 1kg are better value for stocking up.

Ajwa Mix AA & VIP 1kg

Ajwa Mix AA & VIP is Madinah Ajwa in mixed sizes, packed in 1kg. Mix AA is mostly medium dates, while Mix VIP is mostly jumbo. It is a good-value pick for households that eat Ajwa every day.

Ajwa gift boxes

For gifting, choose an Ajwa gift box in Medium or Jumbo:

• Ajwa Madinah Gift Box 250g
• Ajwa Madinah Gift Box 500g
• Ajwa Madinah Gift Box 1kg

Mini gift box with 7 or 3 dates

The Premium Ajwa Mini Gift Box (7 & 3 pieces) is a small box made for the seven-dates-in-the-morning practice. It also makes a lovely wedding or kenduri door gift, an aqiqah favour or a small Ramadan present. Buy one pack or several at once.

Ramadan gift box with Ajwa & Medjool

Want two varieties in one box? The Special Ramadan Gift Box with Ajwa & Medjool pairs Ajwa with Medjool dates, in 250g, 500g or 1kg. See also our date hampers and gift boxes.

Ajwa date prices: choosing the right option

Storing and serving Ajwa dates

Keep Ajwa dates in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Once opened, close the pack tightly or move the dates to an airtight container. For longer storage, keep them in the fridge.

Serving ideas:

• Eat them as they are to break your fast or at sahur.
• Serve with Arabic coffee or tea when guests visit.
• Chop and stir into oats, yogurt or smoothies.
• Stuff with an almond or walnut for an easy snack — browse our nuts.

Like other dates, Ajwa is a source of fibre and natural energy, and a traditional choice for breaking the fast.
