Roasted salted almonds — a nut snack for the office
In this article

It is 3pm, the meeting has just ended and your stomach is rumbling. Most people reach for kuih, biscuits or a sweet drink. If you are looking for healthier office snacks that are simpler, nuts and seeds are an easy choice: no cooking, long-lasting, portable and good for sharing with colleagues.

In this article we share nut ideas for your desk and the office pantry, how to choose between raw and roasted, the right pack sizes, and how to store them so they stay crunchy.

Why nuts make good office snacks

  • No preparation. Open the tub, take a handful and get back to work.
  • They keep. Stored in an airtight container, nuts stay crunchy for weeks.
  • They are filling. Nuts contain natural fats, protein and fibre, so a small handful goes a long way.
  • No mess. Unlike kuih or cake, nuts do not leave crumbs or grease on your keyboard.
  • Easy to share. One jar in the pantry is enough for a whole team.

Nut ideas for your desk

Almonds — the classic

Roasted Salted USA Almonds are crunchy and lightly salted, perfect for nibbling while you read email. If you prefer no salt, choose Raw Whole Almonds — eat them as they are or roast them yourself at home.

Cashews — soft and buttery

Roasted Salted Cashews have a creamy taste and a softer bite than almonds. They are usually the first to disappear from the pantry. See also the cashew nuts page.

Pistachios — the snack you have to shell

Roasted Salted USA Pistachios (in shell) have one built-in advantage: because you shell them one by one, you eat more slowly. Keep a small bowl for the shells. See also the pistachio page.

Walnuts and macadamias — for a treat

California Walnuts come raw or roasted, while Australian Macadamias have a wonderfully rich, buttery taste. Both are great mixed with other nuts.

Crunchy snacks beyond ordinary nuts

If your team likes something different, try light, crunchy roasted legumes and seeds:

Office snack ideas through the day

  • Before a morning meeting — a handful of almonds or walnuts with your coffee if you skipped breakfast.
  • After lunch — a few dates with nuts for something sweet without a heavy dessert.
  • Mid-afternoon (the hungriest hour) — crunchy roasted edamame or chickpeas instead of fried kuih.
  • Long meetings — a bowl of in-shell pistachios in the middle of the table for everyone to share.
  • Working late — a tub of nuts and dried fruit kept in your drawer for emergencies.

Setting up an office pantry

If you run the office pantry, set out a few glass jars with different kinds — for example almonds, cashews, edamame and a dried fruit mix. Add a scoop or tongs to keep things clean, and label every jar clearly. Refill weekly so the nuts stay fresh. It also helps colleagues pick a snack that suits their taste and needs.

Make your own nut mix

A homemade nut mix is more fun and can be tailored to your taste. A simple formula: two parts nuts (almonds, cashews or walnuts), one part seeds (pumpkin or sunflower) and a little dried fruit such as dried cranberries or jumbo black raisins for natural sweetness. Portion it into small tubs for the week.

Raw or roasted and salted?

  • Roasted and salted — tasty straight from the pack, with a stronger flavour. Good for sharing.
  • Raw — no added salt and a milder taste. Good in oats or smoothies, or for roasting yourself.

Many people keep both: a roasted pack to share and a raw pack for themselves.

How much per serving?

Nuts are filling, so a small handful is usually enough for a snack. A simple tip: do not eat straight from the big pack. Pour a handful into a small bowl or tub, then put the main pack away.

How to store nuts at the office

  • Move them into a jar or airtight container once the pack is open.
  • Keep them away from sunlight and warm spots such as window sills or the top of the fridge.
  • For a large supply, keep some in the pantry fridge so it stays fresh longer.
  • Label each container with the nut name — important for colleagues with allergies to certain nuts.

Choosing the right pack size

Most of our nuts come in packs from 150g to 1kg. A 150g or 250g pack suits your own desk. For an office pantry, 500g or 1kg is better value. Current prices are shown on each product page.
