Frozen dates are fresh dates that are frozen soon after harvest, so their flavour, texture and freshness stay close to just-picked. AlSultanFood Jumbo Frozen Dates come from Egypt in the Jumbo grade — large, dark fruit, some still on the stalk. In this article we explain what makes frozen dates different, how to store and thaw them properly, and a few easy ways to enjoy them.
What are frozen dates?
Most dates sold in shops are dried or semi-dried — they are left to ripen and dry on the palm or after harvest so they keep at room temperature. Frozen dates, on the other hand, are frozen while they are still fresh and moist. The result is juicier flesh, thinner skin and a natural sweetness that never feels heavy.
Many customers describe frozen dates as ‘fresh dates’ you can enjoy all year round, not only at harvest time. Freezing is also a good way to keep a larger supply of dates without the quality dropping quickly.
Taste and texture of Jumbo frozen dates
- Big fruit — Jumbo grade, one date fills your palm.
- Soft and juicy — especially once slightly thawed.
- Naturally sweet — without the stickiness of some dried dates.
- Lovely chilled — refreshing in Malaysia’s hot weather.

Choosing the right size
Retail Jumbo Frozen Dates come in 500g, 1kg, 2kg and a bundle of three 500g packs. The three-pack is very practical: you thaw one pack at a time and keep the rest frozen. If you are buying for a shop, caterer or mosque, have a look at our Jumbo Frozen Dates Wholesale in 5kg and 10kg.
- 500g — to try them, or for a small family.
- 1kg — a weekly supply for date-loving households.
- 2kg — a month of Ramadan.
- 3 × 500g — thaw a little at a time.
How to store frozen dates
As soon as your parcel arrives, put it straight into the freezer. According to the supplier, the dates keep for up to 2 years while frozen. A quick guide:
- Keep them in the freezer compartment, not on a normal fridge shelf.
- Seal the pack or move the dates to an airtight container so they don’t pick up other smells.
- Take out only what you plan to eat.
- Thawed dates belong in the fridge and should be finished within a few days.
- Avoid refreezing dates that have thawed — the texture changes.
How to thaw them
The easiest way is to move the dates to the fridge a few hours before eating. In a hurry? Leave them 10–15 minutes at room temperature. Plenty of people also like them half-frozen — cold, sweet and slightly firm on the outside.
Ways to enjoy frozen dates
- A cool, refreshing treat to break the fast.
- Blend with fresh milk or yogurt for a date drink.
- Chop into fruit salad or over vanilla ice cream.
- An afternoon snack with tea or coffee.
Important: where we deliver
Because these dates must stay cold in transit, frozen dates are not shipped to Sabah, Sarawak or Labuan. We deliver them within Peninsular Malaysia only. Customers in East Malaysia can choose our dried dates instead, such as Premium Safawi Dates or Sukkari Mufattal Dates, which we deliver across Malaysia.

Frozen or dried dates — which is right for you?
Both have their strengths. Dried dates such as Safawi, Sukkari or Mariami are easy to keep in the cupboard and take anywhere. Frozen dates give you a ‘fresh date’ experience — juicier, softer and wonderfully refreshing when eaten cold.
Many families keep both: dried dates for everyday snacking, and a pack of frozen dates in the freezer for iftar or for guests on a hot day. If you have never tried them, start with a 500g pack.
- Choose frozen dates if you love a juicy texture and chilled treats.
- Choose dried dates if you need something portable that keeps at room temperature.
- Got enough freezer space? The 1kg or 2kg sizes are better value for stocking up.
